Children in the car: 5 things to do

Children in the car and safety. We Italians are bad parents. Bad. I'll explain right away why.
In Italy 6 out of 10 children do not travel by car. Car accidents are the fifth leading cause of death in childhood. Yet over 90% of pediatric trauma (a large part of which occurs in the car) is foreseeable and therefore preventable. Not only that: restraint systems reduce the risk of serious injury by up to 90%.

We pay attention to many irrelevant details of our children's lives and then we neglect one of the most important things: their safety in the car. Not only that: 9 out of 10 adults drive seat belts while driving. We basically give more importance to the fine than to the safety of our children.
Let's not hide behind the usual superficial phrase "I am only a few meters ": 40% of fatal accidents occur on routes less than 3 km, therefore especially in the city.

Did you know that in England the mother and her baby are discharged from the hospital only if the car seat is present and regularly fixed? In Australia, however, each taxi is equipped with a seat and does not leave if the passengers do not all have their seat belts fastened. In Italy it seems science fiction: I know it well too, I told you about my adventure to take a taxi with my daughter in Milan.
I'm talking to you again about road safety because I had the opportunity to participate, together with a group of moms and dads bloggers, in the # ContaFinoa5 meeting, organized at the Meyer Hospital in Florence by Opel, Meyer Foundation and ACI. e1 taxis

The ' Pediatric Hospital Meyer is real excellence in caring for children and their families. By following the hashtag # ContaFinoa5 on Twitter ( or this Storify ) you can discover a reality that many of us ignore. I only tell you that hospitalized children also have a vegetable garden!

I heard the words of prof. Leonardo Bussolin, head of the Trauma Center at Meyer. Every day he helps children with trauma, both road, and non-road, and he explained how most of them can be avoided. I have heard the data of ACI, which carries out an important TrasportACI Sicuri project and organizes information interventions at school and health facilities precisely to make parents more aware and informed on the usefulness and correct use of car restraint systems.

But above all, I suffered by listening to how many children are victims of our daily stupidity.
So let's keep talking about it, don't worry about looking too precise or overly "paranoid".
A mother who is too protective is not the one who always tries her baby in the car.
We expect everyone to always tie our children in the car: mom, dad, grandparents, nanny.
There are 5 rules, easy easy, which can save the lives of our children. Let's read and share them, but above all let's apply them, always. Without exceptions. Here they are:

Thanks to Opel, Meyer Foundation and ACI for this important day. Thanks to Fattore Mamma who organized it. But above all thanks to all the colors who will want to share these 5 rules.
